Brock Fire burning 15 acres near Lake Shasta is 40% contained

The lightning-sparked Brock Fire that's burning in timber near Lake Shasta is 40% contained, the U.S. Forest Service reported on Friday evening.

The fire, reported at 1:40 p.m. Thursday near Brock Mountain, was estimated to be seven acres but better mapping now puts it at 15 acres.

"Crews worked through the night and will transition with new crews today.  No injuries to report. No structures threatened," forest officials said in a Friday morning upd.

7-acre Brock Fire burning near Lake Shasta

A seven-acre fire is burning in timber area near Lake Shasta, according to U.S. Forest Service officials.

The blaze, which officials named the Brock Fire, was first reported Thursday at 1:40 p.m. near Brock Mountain, "north of the Pit River (and) near the east end" of Lake Shasta. 

As of 4:30 p.m., no structures were threatened, according to forest officials. They reported lightning as the cause of the fire. 

"Helicopters 506 and 502 and 3 fixed-wing air tankers are working to drop retardant and water on the fire to slow its spread," read an update from authorities. "Crews are continuing to make access via boat and on the ground."
